The New York press admits that the Yankees may be better with A-Rod

Jul 22, 2009, 9:08 AM EDT

The article you thought you’d never see in the New York tabloids: A-Rod, Clutch God!

But for now we have to admit that the Yankees with Rodriguez this
season have been something very different than the Yankees without him.
More often than not, A-Rod’s moments have meant something in the
standings.

OK, that’s a bit deceiving, because the rest of the article catalogs –
unfairly as usual — all of the tired arguments the New York press has
deployed against Rodriguez. He beats up on losing teams. He gets big
hits when it doesn’t matter. He wilts when it does. He’s probably not
the Antichrist, but he plays bridge with him once a week. You know the
drill.

But this article actually acknowledges that the Yankees are better
with Alex Rodriguez than without him, and that represents progress.
