RichardinDallas – if you are a Rangers fan, you have alot of nerve bringing up salaries – A-Rod’s salary from the Rangers pushed up the pay scale as much as anything the Yankees have done. I live in Big D as well, and see Tom Hicks keeping the team down. Sure could have used Alex Rios in this lineup…..

For Jeter to get his 3000 hit in 2010 he would have to get over 300 hits between today and the end of the 2010 season. As I write this Jeter has 2674 hits, meaning he needs 326 hits to get to 3000. This is really unlikely to happen before sometime in May or June of 2011.
Other than that, I agree 100% that Jeter will get the hit in a Yankee uniform and will retire a Yankee, never having played a MLB game for any other team. His #2 will never be worn by another Yankee and In 2075 the Yankees will put up the 6th monument in his honor.

This is such a non-story. Jeter playing anywhere else is an impossibility. But of course, you can count on the morons at the NY Daily News and the Post to turn it into a big deal, strictly for their own agenda, of course.

Personally, I hope they give him a 10 year extension for $800,000,000. New York is the only place where Jeter would be at the “top of the heap” the way he is there. He’s very good, bordering on GREAT, but he’s NOT the best thing to wear a baseball uniform, let alone a Yankees suit.. And I want him to get all that money so the evil empire will know what it’s like to spend too much money for their own good.

If he continues his current pace, sometime just before the end of this season,Jeter will get his 2,722nd hit to pass Lou Gehrig as the all-time Yankee hit leader. And sometime in 2010, he’ll reach the 3,000-hit mark. The Yankees will NOT trade, release, etc., their only 3,000-hit, first-ballot HOFer. Never. Nada. No way. He’ll be 37 when he gets his 3,000th. I think he’ll still be at SS until then, but he could easily move to second or third, or DH. With his lifetime BA where it is, he’ll get to the plate somehow. And there’s enough space in monument hall for his.
While they don’t have to worry about it yet, there are key players who are getting on in years. Damon and Jeter are 35, A-Rod is 34, Pettitte is 36, Posada is 37, and Rivera is 39. Three HOFers (A-Rod, Jeter and Rivera)will be hard to replace. But they have Texiera, Cano, Cabrera to build around when the time comes. How do you replace the three HOFers? Well, you really don’t; you just try to find quality players and hope for the best. And always remember, the Yankees are the greatest team money can buy. This is the cry of Yankee haters, but it’s true.
