Quote of the Day

Aug 19, 2009, 8:50 AM EST

“That was a lot of fun. You just keep pounding balls into the gap. The one thing you don’t want to do is hit a home run. That’s a rally-killer.”

Jeff Francoeur, following the Mets big win over the Braves, continuing to fail to understand even the basic rudiments of baseball.

I’m not a Frenchy fan, but I totally see his point here. I don’t think he’s failing to understand baseball. When you hit one out, it IS a rally-killer. The pitcher can regroup and settle down. As long as there are guys on base, he’s still got way too many things to think about, is distracted and more likely to make a mistake.
Sorry, I’m with Jeff on this one.

I’m glad Cory and Jeff have each other. Otherwise, it would be pretty lonely in idiot-ville.

Fundamental law of baseball: runs are good.

A mistake? Like a pitch someone could hit a home run with?

No, Christian, you’re missing the point! If the pitcher makes a mistake, the next guy might hit a DOUBLE!

  6. Christian - Aug 19, 2009 at 3:35 PM

Holy crap. My bad. I didn’t even think about a double. Wow… a double!
