I must preface my remarks by saying that I am a Yankee fan. In my opinion, the acquisition of Wagner allows for an 8th inning bridge over to Papelbon. I do not believe that Wagner will be used in place of Papelbon.
Now, as far as Papelbon coming to New York, NO THANK YOU!!! Mo is having another 'Mo year', and should be good next year as well. After that, if Mo decides to retire, I will tip my hat and say "THANK YOU MO".

For anyone familiar with the Boston media and the Sox, Paps has already expressed a desire to pitch for the Yanks in interviews. It is common knowledge there that he will go to NY as soon as his contract is up. He has repeatedly turned down every offer the Red Sox have made to extend him as well, and the Sox as a result have been grooming young stud Daniel Bard to take his spot once he leaves. This Wagner deal seems like further attempts by the Sox to solidify their closer spot once he leaves.

I agree that Boston should handle this carefully, although I don't think that the NYY have any interest whatsoever in Papelbon. I see them promoting from within, with either Hughes or Chamberlain replaced a retired Mo.

The Sox had better handle this carefully, and not piss Papelbon off, else you know what will happen when his contract is up. Yankees will swoop in and get him, perfect for them since Mo Rivera is on the glide path to retirement, and Papelbon would give them another 6-8 years of front-line closer capability.
