Still, I would need something in return if I’m giving up one of my best hitters. Plus, what are the chances that Bradley’s bat bounces back next year? He’s been remarkably productive throughout his career, hitting well even when injured. And as we’ve seen this year, the Cubs need all the hitters we can get, and they certainly don’t have that offense in the upper levels of the farm system.
Another problem is that guys like Phil Rogers have little credibility when they start throwing around the “clubhouse cancer” label. It’s applied all too often to the wrong people for the wrong reasons, and the Zambrano article seems to be a good example. He may be absolutely right about Bradley, but I just can’t take his word for it.
The fans could care less, so long as the Cubs win. Trading Bradley would not stem the discontent. I’d want a better reason than that before I dropped $10 million or so by paying him to play for someone else.

then some “fans” leave a comment like this: “if OBP is so important why don’t they put it on the scoreboard?”
really? you don’t understand why OBP is important?
and specifically regarding bradley, do you even realize how few players have an OBP approaching .400? and this is in a down year. he might be a head case but he’s a still a very good hitter.

Opportunity costs play a role here; as in, what are the Cubs’ in-house laternatives? Clearing some room, somewhere, to get Jake Fox into the lineup more regularly is a good thing.

But why as cubs fan we never point the finger at the correct guy. Jim Hendry, he’s the one who signs these bums to big money. Come look, he didn’t sign Wood because we had Gregg, didn’t sign Henry Blanco signed Paul Bako instead and ended up releasing him, Joey Gathwright gone, Felix Pie the one time savior of centerfield for the next 10 yrs…gone. Signed Soriano to a huge deal until he turns 41!! Remeber few years ago, for the play off run he traded a few releivers for Steve Trachsel! he went 0-2 the remainder of the season and didn’t make the playoff roster! mark Derosa..gone replaced with aaron miles (nice) Milton Bradley…i typically give first year players the benefit of the doubt, considering the new surroundings etc, but that benefit is getting thin. Fukudome…sometimes solid..but not the 25-30 HRs we need and 4yrs 48 million!! for a guy hitting in the .260′s and 10-15 HRs.
the guy who should be feeling the heat is Hendry…is pulling all the strings in this circus show.

I’m not saying teams shouldn’t be willing to get rid of sunk costs just because they’re paying them, but I don’t know that taking the J.P. Ricciardi route is necessarily the way to go, either.
