As a Phillies fan, we had sufferted at least as much as Red Sox fans. (Not to mention Cubs fans; who has suffered more than them???) I actually rooted for the Red Sox in 2004 because I thought if they won a W.S. than they’d finally shut the hell up! But no! They became even MORE obnoxious! It’s enoguh to make a lifelong Yankess hater root for NY!!!

Actually Red Sox fans are worse, true Yankee fans may pound their chests and shout words of Bravado but it is usually in fun. Red Sox fans are more psychotic and many times are looking for the fight not the fun the rivalry brings. Not to say it applies to all Sox fans but they take it more to heart and live by the wins and losses.

I grew up outside of NY, spent 15 years in Boston and have lived all over the country. I see that Northeastern people have a way of rubbing much of the country the wrong way, doesn’t matter if you’re from NY, Boston or Philly, most of the country sees you as the loudmouth azzholes you are, which is why I keep coming home! I love you guys.

I’ve been a RedSox Nation fan since long before there were sold out games and winning seasons. The Boston-New York rivalry is the best rivalry in sports, especially now since the yankees choked in 2004 and we won a second title in 2007 to prove 2004 was no fluke. Phooey on this writer for popping the Sox.
Hate the yankees but respect em. Hate the RedSox but respect em.

i know i’m late to the game here, but regarding your post (edited version of what i posted there)…
My issue with this (story) is where is the discussion of ratings? of course EPSN is going to put more teams that have the larger audiences on! [see who's going to games in poor attendance cities, Red Sox and Yankees fans] also, time zones? how many of these games had 8PM ET (or before) starts? You’re not going to get a lot of LAA fans on board at 5PM.

My point exactly. Boston is not a very big city, and yet the local support them. It’s the same with St. Louis, the Cubs, the NYY, and a couple of other clubs.
The day after the newness of their stadiums wore off, fans abandoned the Orioles and the Indians. If you stop going to the games, the owners can’t spend money that they don’t have. My friends and I split NYY season tickets. These people in BA and CL and elswhere should simply call up three of their friends, buy two season tickets, or four half-year plans, and split them up.
You can either sit here and whine about the big beating you up, or you can defend yourselves.

I don’t get why everyone hates Red Sox fans so much- you don’t see me come on a message board, and slam the Cardinals, the Angels or hell, even the Yankees! Not everyone who is a die-hard Sox fan is a blithering idiot, sure there are a few, but you can say that for any team. I don’t wear a pink hat and blue shirt to games, and to be honest, 99.98% of the other people at the game are wearing Sox gear. Baseball in Boston is surreal, every game has an intense atmosphere, the stadium is always sold out, it’s the place to be. Maybe if you would back away from the keyboard and go to a game, your stadiums would be similar. Why not pull your heads out of your asses and support your own team, instead of whining about mine?

Just a note of interest. Four major sports if you will, MLB-NFL-NBA-NHL. Boston has more combined championships than New York. Like most who seem to be tired of Red Sox nation, some of us are tired about hearing constantly about the past Yankees. Also for information, when you join Red Sox nation, you receive a cap-two tickets for a game and a tour of Fenway.(not just a card to show off). Worthy of mention in my view is how I enjoy seeing all the Yankee empty seats right behind home-plate every game.

Well I agree with the criticism that the Red Sox aren't as "fun" a team to watch, but they ain't the corporate Yanks. Dustin Pedoria is one "fun" character guy on the Sox who gets no credit for being one, probalby because he appears so annoyingly cocky. Cute little ballpark, soldout games, a large payroll, and 2nd to the NYY.
The RS? No, actually it was Baltimore when they first opened Camden Yards. Great fun, wasn’t it? But the fans abandoned it, and the management and ownership ran a good franchise into the ground.
The original article, while barely readable, still didn’t explain why the RS (& the NYY to some extent) should be hated. Is there a problem with attending games? Is there a problem with management taking the money we give them and re-investing it? Is it our fault that no one in TO, BA, or TB wants to go to any of their games? In the middle of a pennant race, there have been about 15,000 at the two RS/TB games. Did anyone in TB actually go to the game?
What this boils down to is that no one in BA, TO, and TB gives a hoot about their team. The fans in Boston and NY suuport their team. We deserve a good team more than you do. The same goes with St. Louis, the Cubs, LA, and a couple of others. When you start supporting your team like we do, then you’ll wind up with a better team.
