Bleacher:
You are probably correct about Red Birds running away after Holliday. However, with him and without Albert, they are not a contending team for even the wild card. Another way to look at it.

Actually, Pujols is the best player in the league but not the MVP. I would take Pujols over my MVP, but when you start looking at MVP - remember what he means to the team. St Louis was in a wildcard race, not truly running away with the division etc.... enter Holliday etc.... the true MVP of the NL should be Pablo Sandoval - the Giants wouldn't even be a topic for discussion outside of doormat jokes. just some numbers for Pablo 2nd in NL with batting avg, 1st in HR amongst SF players, 1st in On base %, could've should've would've been an all star this yr - pujols is great and the best but is hea really the MVP? i don't think STL is a lock for the playoffs without Matt Holliday

THE REDSOX USED SIX PITCHERS BUT ONLY TWO CAME IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INNING DUE TO INEFFECTIVENESS. BALTIMORE USE SEVEN AND SEEM TO BRING THEM IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INNING TO GET THAT LEFT / LEFT OR RIGHT / RIGHT MATCHUP. THAT SLOWED THE GAME ALONG WITH 12 RUNS.
YOU ARE ALLOWED TO ROOT FOR WHOM YOU WANT AND A 1-0 GAME. IT JUST SEEMS STRANGE WHAT YOU DO FOR A LIVING THAT YOU WANT IT OVER SO FAST. CHANGE CAREER'S AND YOU DO NOT HAVE TO WATCH A ALL.

Tony LR is one of the smartest baseball minds and when he makes such an statement, it clearly demonstrates his high level of understanding for the game and his players -- Albert knows who he is, St. Louis fans know who he is, all of baseball knows it and besides the fact of what's obvious, if announced even further, would make his player a target during the playoffs... You don't want to do that. I think Albert is a big man and doesn't need kind of pad in the back. What he needs is a manager to help him win another World Series, like TLR!

If everyone knows it, then why ask the question? Everyone knows that ball players are a bit wary of saying something one day, then be found wrong the next. I am sure our buddy Craig would be the very first to point that out. Then, the next question to Tony, if and when it happens is, how come you were wrong about Pujols HuH? So, why bait the guy with an obvious question? Writers just try to stir up the pot, and sometime for no good reason other than they just don't like someone. Leave it alone until the season is over then let the votes be cast.

Gee whiz, Tony LaRussa won't give the other contenders an edge by giving them and quote to tack up on the clubhouse wall. So that makes him a bad guy, P-L-E-A-S-E.
I know it's hard to just report on the game, it is so much easier to stir up a storm and cover it.
