I see…major league teams are only supposed to screw their own affiliates.
Can’t recall anyone complaining the gazillion times a big league club has slurped up a minor league teams stars in the middle of a pennant race; that’s unfair too, but completely consistent with the situation as everyone in the minors understands it, which is that the lower teams exist solely to support the success of the parent team, and all other considerations are secondary. That’s the deal. The fans know it (or should; it’s hardly a secret); the players know it. That means the MLB team rehabs stars wherever and whenever it may be most beneficial to the big team’s plans and prospects, and if that means turning a samll town play-off game into a farce, it’s a trade-off they will make every time.
Ethically, the Red Sox brass have NO obligation to the Winston-Salem team. Their duty is to get the Red Sox to the Series, and if throwing Dice-K in a play-off game helps do that, then it’s the right thing for them to do.

Sorry folks, but “the only time they’ll face a major-leaguer” argument is about as lame as it gets. These kids battled for 140 games and it’s now a best-of-five playoff. Using Dice-K was a farce, and I say that as as Red Sox fan.

At least Boston is preparing for a playoff run. The Indians had a big leaguer rehabbing in the AA playoff last season.

On the other hand, this might be the only chance that “most of the[se] guys” have to face a major league pitcher. It would be interesting to know what they really think about this dilemma.
