Quote of the day: 'Our infield sucks'

Oct 11, 2009, 6:08 PM EDT

“Our infield
sucks. It’s the worst in the game. I’m not lying about that. That is
true. It took a bad hop and I just tried to put my body in front of it
to get an out…”

“…That stuff
upsets me. My job is to take 1,000 ground balls a day, and other guys’
job is to get the field perfect so we can play baseball. It happens.
That’s the way it goes.”

– Dustin Pedroia thinks he had a real chance for an inning-ending double-play
on a Kendry Morales groundball in the top of the eighth inning. The
ball took a wicked hop, forcing Pedroia to dive. By the time he reached
his feet, his only play was first base. Juan Rivera followed with a
two-out, two-run single off Jonathan
Papelbon. The two runs proved critical as the Angels went on to score
three in the top of the ninth, taking the lead and ending the Red Sox

Do I hear a Major Whine? It’s part of the game. Itiis what it is. You lost. go home and quit pouting. This is not little league.
Maybe you should blame your closer who thinks he is the best. Mariano He is not and never will be.

When the Angels smoke the Stankees, you’ll be whining too, dreaming about 2000.

Ha, yes, all that stood between the Sox and another world championship was the ground. God damn that ground!

Hey Dustin, you’re the defending AL MVP (that’s a joke), use your influence and get the groundskeeper fired, ya’ little baby.

It’s probably too much to hope teher’s more to his statement, and that Dustin actually did tip the cap to his opponents, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he didn’t; he had similar comments in a game Lackey beat the Sox in last year. This is what gripes me about Pedroia – great player; just maybe oughtta keep his mouth shut sometimes. He, and most of the Red Sox Nation I’ve encountered, just seem unable to give credit where credit’s due. I was amazed at the number of whining Sox fan e-mails after game 1. If you don’t expect an adventure in officiating with both “Cowboy” Joe West and BC Bucknor in the umpiring crew, you need to watch more baseball. The fact that the bad calls were liberally applied to bosth sides notwithstanding, it’s part of the game. Get over it. But I digress…
Sox fans, please, instead of whining that Pap blew it, or the infield sucks, or whatever the current whine might be, how about admitting you were, in the end, beaten by a better team today. Good night, Irene -we’ll see ya next year.

what a quote. Ive been a die hard Sox fan for 25 yrs and it was obvious from before the all star break this wasnt their year. Papelbon lost the game for them not the infield. Hats off to the Angels on a strong run. Beat the YANKEES!

bunch of idiots. why u always think when a guy is stating his opinion he is whining? anytime you guys say you don’t like something go look in the mirror and yell at yourselves for being whiners! bunch of overly-sensitive entirely too politically correct babies on here!

  9. JoeRunner - Oct 11, 2009 at 10:43 PM

Pedroia is young and will learn, hopefully, not to point a finger when his team loses. It’s not big league, true or not. Take your whipping and move on.

Somebody tell Pedroia , the cry baby , why he practices fielding a thousand ground balls a day . It’s so that you can field the bad hop grounders and still make the double-play . The why you make millions of dollars a season while guys like me sit home and watch in front of the boob tube.
As for the grounds keeper , please , he’s doing the best he can for the Bosox homers and doesn’t need a spoiled brat complaining to management to get him fired . The guy makes $ 13.50 an hour and works hard for the money so that prima donnas , like you Pedroia , can play a kids game and live like a King .

As a Red Sox fan I would like to say: “CONGRATULATIONS – ANGELS”.
The Angels deserve a collective tip of the hat by every Boston fan.
PLEASE BEAT THE YANKEES !!!! No whining and no finger pointing. Just play ball.
