Mauer could one day manage Mauer

Oct 22, 2009, 8:55 AM EDT

I’m assuming Aaron knew this, but I find it neat to learn that Joe Mauer’s older brother Jake, a former twins farmhand himself, is a manager in the Twins’ organization. And an up-and-coming one to boot.  He was named Manager of the Year in the Gulf Coast League this season and was just promoted to the Florida State League to take over the Class-A Fort Meyers team.

At 31, he’s obviously a managerial prospect with a future. Maybe even a Major League future, especially if  his brother re-signs with the big club.

Knowing absolutely nothing about the inner workings of the Twins organization, I wonder if promoting him (Jake) could be a cheap ploy to try and keep Joe around? Something akin to the Astros drafting clemens’s son?

Not all CPO. I’d imagine the Manager of Year award was not given to Jake by the Twins, but by some independent group (the league? sportswriters? who knows..) so it wasn’t like some internal organization award.
Their father is a high school coach. He invented this: and they run this very successful baseball school:
To say they’re a baseball family is to say the Jackson’s were a musical family. Well, without the dysfunctional weirdness…
