Hey, Coz, why is MB any more susceptible to racism that everyone else in the MLB? You're supporting the 'racism notion' along with all the other idiots is a aimless ruse to distract from the facts. MB's a part time player; always has been, always will be. "Racism?" Ha! I see where you get your name...

Regardless of which sport, coaches are by their nature somewhat arrogant (okay, confident might be a better word). Because of that confidence they don't always look at other team's problem players the same way we as fans do. Usually their thought is sure he's been a problem for them, but I can handle him differently. Whether you're talking about Terrell Owens, or Bradley, there is always some other team that thinks it will work out for them. The one position where that actually has some validity is the pitcher with great "stuff" who just can't put it together. There are dozens of examples of struggling pitchers who blossom under a different pitching coach.

Forget about his behavior. Let's face it, it's provocative, but it will eventually leave us with a "so what"! Anyway, there are many misbehaved players in baseball; that's not the relevant issue with MB.
Finishing with the Rangers in '08, MB had a lifetime average of 318 AB's (2867/9) per year, with a standard deviation of 155. Considering he was hired by the Cubs for his offensive abilities, we're going to ignore his defensive contributions for this exercise (easy to do since he only played a couple of dozen games in the Rangers' outfield). So, $10M per year, divided by 318 AB's equals $31,391 per at bat. We can couple that with his lifetime hitting average of .280 (at that time), which would equal $112,113 for each hit. Or, let's figure him for his power!?!? Going into the '09 season, the Cubs could expect to pay around $873,786 for each home run, after you add up his 9 years, 103 total HR's, averaging 11.44 HR per year. MB is a part-time player with a superstar salary.
These numbers were in plain view of the Cubs when they brought him into to his first multi-year contact at ten meeeeelyon dollars per. Good deal for MB - lousy decision-making by the Cubs. The only thing outta whack here were false expectations. Shame on the Cubs; MB's performance this year was very predictable. The Cubs relied on 'hope' instead of logic.
Respectfully submitted,
ChopperJim
