I am delighted to hear that Mr. Towers is leaving the Padre organization. For years the team has been the AAA provider for the Major Leagues. San Diego has done tons for the Padres over the years, not to mention the new stadium that has set a new standard in design and incorporating local surroundings. The Padres, in my opinion, owe San Diego at least the courtesy of fielding a team worthy of what the citizens of San Diego have done for the team. They have supported great and poor teams over the years, but once a 'real winning team' arose, Mr. Towers sold and traded players like baseball cards. I had season tickets for several years while living in the area but was pleased to leave the Padres in my wake to other venues where teams were established and maintained, building on each season to put together something to be proud of. Thank goodness for the likes of Mr. Tony Gwynn, the last of the Padres Franchise Players....

Well, with this it's now all seemingly official:
The San Diego Padres has become a Triple A farm team for the Red Sox.
Towers will complete the arrangement by going to work for Theo in Boston.
The Red Sox will rely on the Padres to fill holes in their line up and to allow the most skilled and developed Padre players ready for the show an opportunity while still keeping them "in the system".
Boston will send San Diego a steady stream of mid level prospects. If any of them do turn into top level players, Boston will "purchase their contract" and bring them up to the big leagues.
Epstein could not be reached for comment. Reports indicate he wet his pats on the conclustion of the deal and had to go home and change.
