You mentioned the alternatives were Hughes or Joba, but how about bringing in Robertson to pitch the 7th. If he was anywhere near as effective as he was in Game Three, he could have worked through the 7th, picked up an out in the 8th (or maybe bring in Coke for a batter) and hand the ball to Mo.
I don't know what Joe is doing because he has options and how about Chad G. coming in...he finished the season strong and as we have seen, anyone with a heartbeat can throw better than Joba right now. You can't stick with what got you here because players have ups and downs in the season...the postseason is too short to let guys try to work through issues and that's the reason Swisher (as much as I like him) needs to take a seat. Look at Torre in 2001, he benched Soriano who was his lead-off hitter all season. Let's try to pull this one out tonight!!!

Sorry, they cut off my surname in the prior post in sacrifice to the gods of taste...or something.
Another thing just occurred to me: how'd you like to be the captain of a Toltec ringball team if your general manager was Isaiah Thomas?

I think the Toltecs had the right idea. There's a ballcourt in Chichen Itza in Yucatan where Toltec and Toltec-influenced Maya teams played a strange sort of basketball (ringball might be more accurate). The captain of the losing team got his head cut off in sacrifice to whatever gods they thought needed to be appeased when their team lost. There's even a legend about an incredible game that went on for weeks, and the cacique (Mayan for head honcho) pardoned the captain of the losing team because they had played so well and bravely - whereupon the losing captain, in a fit of indignation, demanded to be sacrificed, as was his...uh...right. Can you imagine Mike Scoscia doing THAT?
Wonderful carved murals all around the walls of the ballcourt depict epic games ending with celebration on one side and sacrifice on the other. Imagine, now, if these games were on FOX. Champagne...er...pulque being sprayed around in one locker room and the anchors getting saturated with booze, and blood spurting all over the loser's locker room and the anchors getting crusted with gore. Heh, maybe you could get Nancy Grace to cover the losers' locker room.
Go ahead and fire Girardi. He'd still be getting off easy.

This whole series has been both poorly played and badly managed by both sides. I see no reason to fire either manager should his team lose, but I certainly see no cause for celebration in their work, especially in the pitching decisions.
Now, if Girardi can't get the Yankees to the Series next year, that's another story.

I wonder what you would of said if the last ball of the day was a home run and we ended up winning. I am from South Africa and watch a lot of sport and the one thing that drives me mad is how quickly we want to rid of a coach. If you are in the firing mood get rid of those who selected the coach. Look at Manchester United soccer coach Alex has been with the club for 23 years. He is probably the most successful coach in any sport and he to has had his good and bad years. If you have slected what is termed as the correct coach keep him so that he can mould a good side.

There are way too many off days in these playoffs. Seems like an eternity since the regular season ended, even though that was only Oct 3, 3 weeks ago.
Still you can't blame a newspaper writer trying to say something controversial. Anything to sell papers will surely help, even if it is completely wrong.
