Most companies do no tolerate this kind of activity since its basiaclly sexual harassement regardless if its consentual or not.The fact of his position within the company and hers opens up ESPN to huge legal exposure if she wished to take that route.

Someone please explain to me how ESPN hires someone with a history of sexual harassment and multiple extramarital affairs and is somehow surprised when he does it again. If you are going to hire someone with the history should should not fire them when they repeat that history. Maybe they should have just fired the person that hired him.

Kinda hard to fire Letterman, since he is the star, since he owns the company that manes his show for CBS, since he is pretty close to irreplaceable.
Not that I think that having an affair with a staffer is grounds for firing anyone. Or that sexual misconduct undermines the ability to talk about baseball. If Phillips were more popular – I seem to be the only baseball fan who likes him – he probably would not have lost his job.
But this will soon be forgotten, and Phillips will get another gig, like Marv Albert and Don Imus and Gregg Easterbrook.

Steve had one affair with staff, Letterman had many affairs with staff. How come Letterman is still there and Steve gone? ESPN ethical, CBS not ethical?

Harold got picked up by MLB network, and settled with ESPN out of court. That’s why Phillips wasn’t fired immediately, even after admitting he boffed his assistant. It was said of Phillips that, as a G.M., he made a heck of a commentator. Now it seems that as a commentator, he made a heck of a moron.

If Harold Reynolds can get fired because of the same misconduct, so should Steve Phillips. No ifs, buts or whats. Only problem is the lawyers.
