What’s funnier is that people actually think Girardi is proof that advanced statistical analysis shouldn’t be used when managing, when Girardi routinely violates the first commandment.

Phillies in 6? Maybe in 3006, the year that is. Or, maybe they will lead after the sixth inning. Maybe four or five times they will lead at or past the midway point of the game. But when the last out is recorded, the Yankees can add another World Series championship to that outrageous total.
With the two teams’ position players, it’s a toss-up. When it comes to pitching, I’ll take the Yanks. I’m not even sure it will go six games, but out of respect for the Phillies, who are certainly the best in the N.L., let’s say Yanks in six.

revealing flaws in a strong national league team. no starting pitching beyond Lee (pedro? blanton? please!!!). adequate bullpen. strong line up. sort of look like the 2004-07 yankess without mariano.

I would like to make another prediction at this time….. The Yankees 2009 world series loss to the reigning Champs, the Philadephia Phillies. Will be blamed on the poor managing of Girardi by NY Fans and the “experts” who call for NYY to win!!!! end of prediction. ;>)~

Girardi has led this team to the best record in baseball and to it’s first World Series in 6 years.
Like any manager in the history of the sport, he has made mistakes along the way. However, to use the word “disaster” in describing Girardi is highly inappropriate and grossly inaccurate. How can anyone in their right mind call Girardi a disaster when his team is 4 games away from a World Championship?
I think this all stems from people (and sportswriters) not understanding the roles and responsibilities of a baseball manager.
I think Girardi has been good. I wouldn’t call “great” but only because he hasn’t withstood the test of time.

I’d like to point out Heyman’s underhanded comment about the “dreary book of overwrought stats in the dugout” – if only Joe simply stuck to his gut and ignored those damned probabilities and matchups!
Yes, Joe made some strange moves worthy of second guessing. But even really good, experienced managers make mistakes and questionable decisions (see: Scioscia, Mike) so to attribute Girardi’s errors to the fact that he attempts to use factual information readily at his fingertips is just silly.

The italics part is the Heyman article that CC is referencing. Heyman wrote this article over the weekend prior to the conclusion of Game 6.
What’s funny is most in the MSM are blasting Girardi for bad moves, but he’s made worst ones (the absolute worst was pitching running Guzman for Arod in G5) that they overlook. His BP management has been bad, but the management of Scioscia has been far worse than Girardi.

And as everyone knows in baseball, the manager can easily lose even with the best players money can buy like the Yankees. 30 other managers would love to be labelled that bad but still be managing in the World Series…

Yeah, “disaster” is definitely the wrong word, given that they had too much talent to let him lose the series for them (and Scioscia had something to say about that, too).
“Debacle”? “Embarrassment”? “Joke”? “Travesty”? I think all those would fit, to various degrees…

Joe has the bullpen confused in the POST SEASON, during the regular season everyone had their roles and knew when they would be called on, now they are a little puzzeled.Yankees are 4 wins away from a TITLE # 27, WHO CARES……….
