This is asinine criticism of Girardi.
1) When Swisher is cold, he’s ice cold. White Sox fans know this too well.
2) Hairston hasn’t had an AB versus Pedro since 2004, but doesn’t that make his stats more impressive? Pre-2004 Pedro was a much more dominant pitcher. And for comparison, Johnny Damon’s a career .200 .238 .200 hitter versus Martinez. Jeter’s at .250 .345 .408.
Good move by Girardi, and a (hopefully motivated) Swisher will be the top choice to pinch hit later in the game.

So basically, when the Yankees should be taking advantage of 1) having a good DH (versus stop-gap solution that NL teams have to employ) and 2) superior AL lineup (I’m a huge Phills fan and even I will conceed their line-up is stronger 1-9 (over a 162 game season)), Girardi has basically converted his team into an NL line-up…

“Owns” is overstating it, though 10-for-27 is something. But Hairston hasn’t had an at-bat against Martinez since 2004.

Panic mode is a little extreme, don’t you think? Harriston apparently owns Pedro Martinez (like the rest of Yankee Stadium). And, like you said, Jorge was already out as A.J.’s catcher.
