Another move by the Pirates' brain trust, that shows why they never have a winning season. They are going to tie up 1/8 of the payroll on a speed guy coming off an ACL injury! They could let the Rays buy him out and then sign Iwamura for a couple of mill at the most. Of course, the Pirate FO would have to think a move ahead, something they just aren't good at.

And for his part, Iwamura will be very pleased to be playing under a blue sky instead of in that cement sarcophagus idiotically known as the "Tropicana" dome. It's about as pleasant a place to play as the cement coffin around the melted reactor core at Chernobyl, and lacking in that star-crossed nuclear plant's signature architectural charm as well. Sitting in there, I was reminded somehow of the catacombs under a Paris cemetary in The Vampire Lestat. At least after a ballgame you can take your Buprion, shake off the clammy feeling you get from the place, and walk across the road from that horrible mausoleum of a stadium to the Salvatore Dali Museum and watch "Destino," the animated collaboration between Dali and Walt Disney that never made it into Fantasia. You'll then be able to go home feeling, if not back to life, then at least undead.
