Probably a mid-market team hoping to add “just enough” to “surprise people.”
Or maybe a team like Washington, whose bullpen was so awful. Perhaps Rizzo looks at the saves and decides it’s better to have a “proven” closer than last year’s gaggle of misfits.
Either way, I sincerely would prefer NOT to see Rodney re-sign with Detroit. Granted, this is a team that dealt with Todd Jones’ own shakiness for years. So, in a way, we’re used to it. But I’d be much happier if the Tigers brought back Lyon, signed Putz to an incentive-laden deal and snagged somebody like Billy Wagner for a year or two.
