Funny you linked to an Orioles pic of Sammy’s late playing days, Craig, because I thought he looked significantly smaller playing for Baltimore than he did as a Cub. Maybe Before, During and After pics would be best.

There might actually be some merit to the “harsh flashbulbs” theory. The photo on the left was taken with flash at about natural light (some flash, deep shadows from head behind). The right photo was almost total wash-out- far too bright, and no shadows, so a slight lightening of his complexion from any sourse would appear as a drastic change. Neither are very good photography, just quick, unthoughtful, non-photoshopped, get-it-done shots.
