I have to believe the Yankees saw something they really didn’t like to give up on this guy. They’re suh fiends for pitching, and Wang is a cheap option. If they non-tender this guy, it’s got to be for good reason.

They might non-tender him since he’s eligible for arbitration, which he’d accept b/c no one would sign an injured pitcher with a history of shoulder problems.
Most likely they’ll try and resign him to a cheaper deal thus saving them a few $MM.

Going back through marquee pitchers from Japan/China/Korea/Taiwan, I cannot think of any of them who’ve stayed healthy and productive for what one would consider a long career. Hideo Nomo. Hideki Irabu. Chan Ho Park. Look at Daisuke Matsusaka this past season. Even that lightning-in-a-bottle reliever for the Red Sox, Hideki Okajima flamed out quickly.
