Sounds like maybe Mgwire ain’t as good a coach as he thinks he is. Unless he maybe should tell Holliday that the stance he prescribes only works with Creatine. In which case he would be an excellent hitting coach*.

The On Base % is because pitchers wouldn’t pitch to him because the PED’s gave the man muscles like an Ox. He was a user, and a liar. The idea that he could be a hitting coach is laughable. He was a career .263 hitter who struck out almost 1600 times.

The difference is pretty simple. no player needs to risk damage to his body in order to compete with players that have less regard for their own bodies than they do. hgh and steroids increase strength and/or recovery time….fact. second…steroids are and were illegal, whereas amphetamines issued by a doctor are/were not. illegal amphetamines do not extend your playing career and were more a result of the lengthy season than to improve performance by changing the structure of your body.
finally, as this relates to mcgwire, everyone that has admitted using steroids has pretty much moved on while only those players that continue to lie and deny what they did are receiving the attention. fans hate cheating but they hate lying more.

Why are steriods and HGH called PEDs? How the heck do they enhance performance? Steriods in combination with intensive weight training make you big and stronger. HGH makes you bigger. How is that performance enhancing? Following that logic Shaq should be the greatest MLB player on the planet. Amphetamines and cocaine are PEDs, they speed up your reflexes. Cocaine abusers, late 70s Pirates and the Mets of 80s. Everybody used amphetamines from the early 50s until about three years ago (even now over 10% of MLB players use amphetamines for “medical” reasons). Another question why aren’t all those players that used steriods and HGH still hitting HRs? Fact when you stop using HGH, don’t suddenly shrink. The muscles from steriods don’t disappear unless stop the intensive weight training. I am not in denial, I just don’t understand. Next someone is going to tell me that the number of HRs hit in Denver dropped because no one who ever used steriods played a game there.

The scary thing is that some GM’s and owners might take McGwire seriously.
I just don’t understand what makes McGwire qualified to be a hitting coach. The guy had one skill: sit on the back leg and swing from the heels.

Sure, and there’s some evidence that McGwire’s batting philosophy is also responsible for the disastrous series of earthquakes in northern Turkey a few years ago, that his congressional testimony retroactively caused the mutation of SIV into HIVB, that his subsequent silence may have influenced the trajectory of the cretaceous-tertiary metorite, and that plutonium would be a far more stable element if he would only come clean about his use of steroids.
