I am amazed that teams continue to spring for expensive ballplayers whose contracts they must know they can't carry without emasculating themselves in other critical ways. Maybe it's time for the Reds to start paying attention to the Cincinnatti Bengals, not that they'll learn much (except that competitive balance is much keener in the NFL than in MLB) but they will be entertained for a change.
Meanwhile the Jays...well, I suspect that some of the moves for which they've been most roundly reviled (Rios, Rolen and shortly, Halladay) may prove in the long run to have been the most prudent things they could have done. Meanwhile, the Santa parade is past and it's now officially winter in Toronto. To hell with all of this jibbering about free agents and trades. I'd just wander over to the Dakota and hang out against the offchance that Mike, Margo and Jeff might sneak in for an impromptu acoustic sert.

It was not pointless for the Blue Jays in that they received prospect Zach Stewart, who will crack their Top 10 prospect list. THT has him at number five in their Toronto Top 10 list, and he should fall around there in BP, Law, and Baseball American rankings as well. The kid has a mid-90s fastball and has a pretty good performance track record. Plus, the Blue Jays got to dump Rolen's salary.
Agree that the Reds were absurd to make the trade, though.
