You don’t need to pay a posting fee for a player like Takahashi, who’s a free agent. Posting fees are only for guys like Dice-K or Ichiro, who were still under contract with their parent clubs.
It takes you nine years to become a free agent in NPB, but once you’re there, the club that lost you doesn’t get any compensation (no Elias Report rankings to fuss about there).
So the posting fee for Takahashi wouldn’t buy you one ramen noodle, let alone a transit fare card.

For Buddha’s sake, Craig, buy a 24-hour Tokyo Transit fare card for nine bucks USD. Last I recall it was valid on Toei trains within the metropolitan commuter zone. You’re ordering a la carte when the early bird special is still on.
And be sure to stop and be photographed next to the Godzilla statue (no, the original Godzilla) in the plaza in front of the Tokyo Central terminal.
