Quote of the day: Elijah, Passover, and Josh Johnson

Nov 28, 2009, 2:19 PM EDT

“I’d be less surprised if Elijah showed up at my parents’ house this
Passover than if they trade him before the start of the season.”

- Josh Johnson’s agent Matt Sosnick, during an interview with FOXSports.com.
According to two sources with knowledge of the club’s intentions, the
Marlins do not plan to trade the 25-year-old right-hander this
offseason.

Okay, unless the Messiah suddenly appears, I swear this is my last Josh Johnson post for a while.

I bet you it won’t be the last – because you’re dealing here with Jeffrey Loria and David Samson, who have pinched more pennies than Italian men have pinched American women tourists’ tushies. Josh will at the very least now concentrate on pitching himself out from under the dead weight of the Loria regime, as currently constituted baseball’s answer to the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Somewhere out there is a package of Exciting Young Prospects (EYPs) with Josh’s name branded on their tushies. Or as Johnny Caspar noted in Miller’s Crossing when Tom Reagan became a…uh…free agent, it was “only a matter of time, buster.”
