It remains to be seen whether or not Amaro actually overpaid for Polanco, however. If Beltre gets 8-10 Mil for 4 years, then I’d prefer Polanco if I’m in the Phillies shoes. Especially if this means that Polanco could spell Utley at times and give Dobbs a few more at bats. Also, considering the Phillies could use a more situational hitter and not another K machine, the Polanco signing while no bargain, makes more sense in team context as opposed to FanGraph value.
