I know Scutaro had a great year last year. And I understand that he is clearly the best of the free agent shortstop options. (Unless you want Tejada and his declinig defense). But he is 34 years old, and has he really become as good as last year showed, or was it just a career year? Seems like an awfully big risk to give him 3 years and 18 million (or more). Not knocking him, but after Lugo, Lowrie, ... I can't see the Sox risking that much money, or that many years for a guy like Scutaro. Pedroia has offered to go to SS, his original position in the minors. He is a hard ass competitor, and a good athelete, I can't see why he could not perform just as well there as he has done a5 2b. In my opinion, Orlando Hudson, 3 years younger and a gold glove caliber 2b with actually better career numbers than Scutaro makes more sense to me.
