The Internet Baseball Awards have used a five-slot CYA ballot for, um, well, a long time, possibly since the beginning. I expect that had some influence on this right-thinking change by the BBWAA on their format.

To all the idiots in the “uproar” group over Carpenter’s lack of votes; even if those two voters had voted for Carpenter instead of Vazquez/Haren, he still wouldn’t have won the Cy Young!!!
He lost by 6 votes; he missed a second place vote (3 points) and a third place vote (1 point). Do the math. Then shut up and admit that Law and Carroll’s votes didn’t cost anyone anything.
If you really want to get worked up over voting, go look at the MVP voting, or maybe even the Hall of Fame voting.

It’s pretty amazing that two years ago they never would’ve thought of adding a lowly internet writer to their ranks, and now they’re adding internet people who really stretch the definition of “writer.” Great news, though.
Do we need the repeat of “Law”? Can’t it just be called the Keith Law?

I applaud adding Forman. Are print writers who moved to the Web (i.e. most of Yahoo Sports) eligible for post-season voting? Does the BBWA have a policy of disenfranchising still-employed writers who have ceased to take sports or their profession seriously, such as THe Boston Globe’s Dan Shaughnessy?
