Report: Bradley about to be traded to mystery team

Dec 8, 2009, 5:14 PM EDT

The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that the Cubs and an undisclosed AL team are close to agreeing to a Milton Bradley deal, one that could be finished up tonight.
The report labels it as a surprise team, which should rule out the most popular suitors: Tampa Bay and Texas.
Who does that leave?
Toronto - There was talk last month of a three-team deal involving Bradley and Lyle Overbay, but the Cubs have no use for Overbay and the Jays should have little desire for Bradley’s contract.
Los Angeles - It’d make a lot of sense on the field, as the Angels could have Bradley and Juan Rivera rotate back and forth between DH and left field. It’d also make sense financially if Gary Matthews Jr. were involved. Still, taking on Bradley is a risk a team in the Angels’ position doesn’t need.
Seattle - Bradley for Carlos Silva?
Oakland - Billy Beane has already tried this one. It didn’t work out, though that was largely because Bradley was unhappy as a part-time player.
Kansas City? The other Chicago team? I’d rule out Boston, New York, Minnesota and Cleveland, but if it’s a surprise team, anything else presents some sort of fit.
Update – Yahoo! Sports’ Tim Brown tweets that the Mariners and Cubs are indeed discussing a Bradley-Silva swap, but that nothing is imminent.
Update 2 – But the Chicago Sun-Times has a “high-level Seattle source” shooting down the Bradley-Silva rumor.

This smells like GMJ to me. Ugh.

    Atlanta, Soriano?

Unless something has changed, Dayton Moore says Bradley rumors involving the Royals were not to be believed. Plus they’ve been mentioned so much that I don’t think they would qualify as a surprise. Hmm…surprise AL team…the Twins? That WOULD be a surprise.

Wittenmyer from the Chicago Sun-Times says a “surprise AL team.”

    Bradley for M.Cabrera, NYY.
Platoon him with Granderson, put Gardner in Center and you’ve got yourself one mighty outfield.

jwb, Atlanta doesn’t qualify as an AL team.

Bradley and $10mil to the White Sox for Linebrink. Sox sign Matsui or Damon.

This would be more believable if the previous tweet wasn’t “Cubs source says they’ve heard nothing to support rumors Det trying to move Granderson this wk.”

Mmmm!! Do not count out Boston that quiclky. He would fit in on the feild. He can hit with great on OB%. Now off feild, and club-house ??? We have had Geart feilders of late in our out feild. Ya know,Max husssssel Manny.Double cluch, thrower J_Bay,with his swift feet. SO Milton will not get an more guff than thay have.
So,bring it, Milton Bradley!! We will give you the same chance you give us.

That would be a huge surprise to me if this happens. This seems very likely since the Sox need cash to sign any much needed players and Damon or Matsui will fill the Podsednik or Dye role since Pods wants to shop around and JD is gone. Would love to see any of them come to Chicago. Carlos Quinton, Alex Rios, and Matsui or Damon as the outfield in Chicago in 2010?
