Given that Wright – who is a much better player – still seems to be unwilling to lead, and that the other players who were leaders were hurt a long while, Castillo really did have some value. (How do you determine a bad team’s MVP, though?)
And while his screw-up in that Subway Series game is reason enough to not want him fielding, how he handled it was mature and reasonable. There is a place for him in baseball. It’s just not playing second for the Mets. But I liked him last season.
