For all you clowns who refuse to embrace Sabermetrics in evaluating players, I hope you realize that refusing to accept more accurate statistics is like cutting wood with a butter knife when there is a power saw right next to you. You’re afraid of learning how to use the power saw, or you think the power saw is too intellectual for your tastes, so you keep using the butter knife. But, by all means, keep pretending that win-loss records and RBIs are actually useful stats for evaluating players and dumbing down these types of discussions with your Luddite, unjustifiable “thoughts.”

This is absurd.
1. statistically, Granderson’s 2007 was MVP worthy, and his other seasons were at least well above average to all-star caliber. (as a comparason, Dustin Pedrioa won the 08 MVP with a 6.7 WAR, Granderson had a 7.3 WAR in 07, his other 3 season from 06-09 were all in the mid 3 range. roughly similar to what Nick Swisher / Johnny Damon gave the Yankees this year) . he’s not a potential hall of famer or anything, but he’s a very good player.
2. Austin Jackson is rated by who as the #1 prospect in baseball? he was rated last year as the #1 Yankee prospect but that’s because they basically graduated all their better upper tier prospects the previous year and were left with only kids or scrubs. he hit a very empty .300 this year with a boat load of strikeouts and a non-existent power production. from a pure stats prospective I’d rate him even less than Melky Cabrera, but adjusting for previous work and tools he have a chance to be a better player than Melky, which isn’t really saying much. in the very very best circumstance (which has less than 5% chance of happening), he’ll be … um… Curtis Granderson!
3. Paul O’Neil couldn’t hit lefty at all before joining the Yankees, he couldn’t hit lefty at all in the first couple years with the Yankees, what a scrub!!!
Taking a longer look, it makes sense on all sides, a bit more iffy on Arizona’s part but maybe they know something we don’t on Schezer’s arm.

As a life long Yankees fan this makes me sad, Granderson has not been a star player like so many people think especially Tigers fans. The Yankees gave up A. Jackson who his rated by many as the number 1 prospect in baseball and a future all star, Phil Coke is a solid 7th inning reliever (bad loss), and Kennedy gone but thats the only player I’m not upset about; all he did was hurt the Yankees (he did admit he didn’t like being in NY frequently because of the crowds, media and weather- WHINE much?)
Now I’m crying because they let Matsui go, one of the greatest DH’s in all of baseball if not the best and they didn’t wan’t to pay him, makes no sense. Now Roy is a Philly, and Lackey is a Red Sox Not really much the Yankees can go for now and were out a great hitter, great prospect, and great relief pitcher, plus they let Wang go who can bounce back, he did win 19 games just a couple seasons ago before injury. All that loss and we get an overrated Granderson A very very bad off-season so far in Yankees Universe

Granderson isn’t clutch. If he bats after Cano, who also sucks in the clutch, we could have a bases loaded, no outs with Cano up and be looking at 2 outs bases still loaded with Melky up. It’s pitching as Cashman proved last year with CC & AJ. Right now, the Yanks pitching staff is weaker. I agree with a previous poster that Ian Kennedy may turn out to be the best of the 3. Getting out of NY could be a good thing for him.

I think somebody must have adjusted Steinbrenner’s medication. Unfortunately he’s “fully engaged” in Yankee meetings and discussions. This Granderson move has George written all over it. From a pure baseball standpoint it makes no sense at all. George saw “30 home runs” and that’s all it took. It’s difficult rooting for the Yankees at times, it really is.
