The Phillies are talking to John Smoltz

Dec 9, 2009, 12:13 PM EDT

It’s not super serious yet — Smoltz is talking to a lot of teams — but his people did meet with the Phillies contingent here at the Marriott this morning.

And of course, in light of Jamie Moyer’s health problems, Philadelphia does have an opening for an ancient-swingman.

John Smoltz is not the answer. Phillies need to spend the money to get an ace. Smoltz is way way passed his prime and probably would be more than adequate as amiddle relief. Unfortunately championships these days are bought and paid for. If any team is to keep up with the Yankees…serious money is required to obtain top rated players.

So the phillies bought their championship in ’08? Good to know and something to keep in mind for future comments.

Dear John Smoltz, I am shocked your name and face hasn’t appeared on John Walsh’s America’s Most Wanted until you give back the money you stole from the Boston Red Sox. Just write the check to Mr. John Henry, 24 Yawkey Way, Boston, MA 02215. When you do that, you can be in my good graces again but until you do, you are just another money grubbing ——- looking to milk every buck you can knowing full well, it is all over for you. GOOD RIDDANCE!!!!

Damn Bobby, Tell it like it is!!!!

An ace? What’s wrong with Cliff Lee? If Hamels rebounds to 2006-08 form, I mean, isn’t that a perfectly awesome top 2? Aren’t solid back-end starters what this team needs? What are you talking about?
