I read his post, and just flat lost my ability immediately to tell you what day of the week any date for any year chosen at random is with pinpoint accuracy. After reading one post, I went from Idiot Savant to just plain Idiot.
Fortunately, my ability to calculate ten place logarithms and differential equations in fractal terms on my fingers and toes appears to have been unaffected.

Mr. DiamondDuq, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
In order:
A. Think BA is a good way to justify a hitter’s worth, and use one year only to do so.
B. In the triple slash #’s, the Yanks were #2/#1/#1. They got on base better than every time in MLB
C. “waiting around for the homerun” is not the reason they failed, it’s been terrible pitching performances in the playoffs. In 18 games prior to this postseason, the yanks had exactly 3 games where the starter went 6IP and gave up 3 or less ER.
D. Pitch/play D/manufacture runs – Yanks rankings for each, #11 in ERA (tied for 3rd in AL), #8 in Defensive Efficiency, and #1 in hitting.

The Granderson deal is overhyped and quite frankly the Yankees gave up too much for an average defensive CF who hit .249 last year. As was exploited in the playoffs last year, even though they won the WS, the Yankees need the ability to get men on base, move them around and get them in, they can’t rely on always getting the big HR. It just so happened they got the big HR’s this past postseason but from the time they went down the Giambi, A-Rod and to a lesser degree Tex road they decided they were going to be a team that sat around and waited for HR’s which didn’t work for several years. A team that can pitch, play defense and MANUFACTURE runs will always be far more consistent than a team that can only slug it out.

The Borg picks up Halladay on top of Granderson and puts them both in the field, they become the Death Star – especially if they bring back Matsui. On the other hand, if Joba goes in the Halladay deal, they have to either pray that ancient Andy P. holds up, or send him up to the Tyrrel Pyramid for replication – and pray that, as often happens, the years don’t suddenly catch up wity Mo’s rotator cuff.

YankeesfanLen, I agree with you about Joba to a certain extent. The Joba Rules are as much to blame for his situation as anything else, the Yankees need to make a decision reliever or starter. Joba is a very emotional and firey competitor and he is still young, I think he will continue to mature and I personally believe he should be a reliever and be groomed as Mo’s successor. His pitching abilites are there and he has an overpowering fastball. If the Yankees are going to trade either one of these guys I would rather see it be Joba as I think Hughes is a definite future starter. If they put Joba in a package for Halladay though they had better be thinking about replacing Mo down the line.

There is no doubt that the Universe is as enthralled with Halladay as they have always been with a divisional pitcher who they can’t hit. Just hope the trade is Joba- he’s a diversion that is not necessary because he can’t or won’t follow well-meaning instruction.
