peteinfla, WHIP = walks & hits per innings pitched, Look Wang had 2 good years and since then has done absolutely nothing. When he came back from the foot injury his ERA was over eleven and his control was non-exisistent including that sinker ball your so fond of. If he had shown any flash of his former self then I would cut him a break but he didn't, he was just plain terrible. The operation on his shoulder was according to Baseball Digest was more serious than the doctors believed was going to be needed. If the Yankees want to tender him and incentive laden contract and he goes for it which I don't believe he will then so be it, but how long do let the guy lay on the DL and not do something to contribute to the team. Carl Pavano was the extreme example of this he could not do anything without getting hurt and spending time on the DL. I don't think 2 good years justifies some type crazy contract when there are better starting pitchers on the FA market.

What the F*** are you talking about? The guy won 19 games back to back years before he got hurt. In fact, he is 55-26 lifetime, with a 1.34 WHIP (as if you even know what that is), and a 4.16 ERA (maybe you know what this is - maybe). He throws a 92-95mph sinkerball, and he doesn't give up many HRs, which you may realize is important in Yankee Stadium. He is a classy guy, never complains, and tried to pitch hurt last year. And you want to compare this guy to Pavano? Please find someone else to root for, your an embarassment to any Yankee fan who actually KNOWS anything about baseball!

Don't understand the yankees getting rid of pitching when that is thier weakest spot and biggest need. Wang was a 19 game winner twice. When healthy he's one of the best in the game, why not give him a small contract loaded with incentives. He's still young with lots of up side.

He's a hell of a pitcher. A #2 or #3 on many teams. Some of you people have a short fuse. If the Yanks release him he will get work for a small market team, and that's good. The big spending Yankees, Phillies and Red Sox don't need hime but others do.
