I love the fearful symmetry of backloaded contracts. It's just when the nausea of his mijudgement begins to dawn on your general manager a year or two later that the strain of the ballplayer's salary really begions to take its toll on the organizational budget. Then you wind up paying half to two thirds of your boner for the guy to finish up his deal with someone else. It's like an employment contract ponzi scheme, a horrible horsemeat and velveeta sandwich that goes right to the heart of your accounting procedures. Like a game of Russian roulette where you fire the bullet and then come back to years later so it can bury itself in your skull. Dear Buddha, don't these suits pay attention to what happens on other teams when these things tank?
