Without 3 big moves this off season the Bosox have no chance of winning the series. Two bats and a quality pitcher for when DiceK shuts down for his summer vacation. They don’t necessarily need a Halladay (not to mention that the owners would never pay the price for him.)
Unfortunately for the Nation Theo appears to be playing with his little army men again. I don’t see any helpful moves coming this year. Perhaps he is saving up his $ for a better free agen pool in 2010-2011. My opinion – 3 years until the sox could have the full package to compete.
The only way to send a message to the owners that also ran teams are not good enough is to break the sell out record. Else they are making so much money they don’t care if they win or lose…

If I am the Padres, I would insist on the RP Bard as well as SP Buchholz to go along with Westmoreland and Kelly. If you are going to ask mom and dad for a puppy, always ask for a kid brother first.

As a diehard and lifelong Yankees fan, I’ve never, ever understood the need for any fan of any team to be insulting with stupid, childish names while offering an opinion. That being said, Epstein is going to have to stop trying to steal Gonzalez, or any player for that matter, in a trade. Yeah sure, there are a few stupid GM’s, but not many though because they wouldn’t keep their jobs for very long. And also, once it happens where a GM actually succeeds in being able to “rob” another team in a trade, then that GM had better enjoy his success because it’ll be a long time before he finds another GM in the league willing to trade with him. He’ll find the other GM’s in the league very, very reluctant to ever want to deal with that GM.

Not sure who you are reffering to. I haven’t heard of any MLB teams named redsuks. Now, if it’s the Red Sox farm system you are talking about, then Paps, Youk, Pedroia (RotY and MVP), Ellsbury and Lester are an awful production farm output ! Definitely overrated.
Come back when you’re all grown up and know something, anything about baseball.

Wow, hop being a classless Yankee fan. What else is new? If the Sox farm system is overrated, then what does that make the Yankmes[see how annoying and juvenile that looks?] system?
Buchholz and Anderson/Kotchman and maybe a lower level prospect or two isn’t awful. I don’t know about including Westmoreland or Kelly.

If the Sox get Adrian Gonzalez they should put Casey Kotchman in the deal as well, Bucholz will have to be in the deal for the Pads to even consider it. If the Sox need to add kelly then they should have the Pads add heath bell.

What about Bucholz, Lars Anderson, and two lower level prospects? Lars could be the replacement for Adrian at 1B for the Pads and Bucholz would immediately become the anchor of the pitching staff. The other two players could be good prospects, but no one in the top 5 or 10 in the system meaning players who will contribute not next year, but in 2011. Do you think the Pads will go for that? By trading Bucholz, the sox can than sign a couple of free agent starting pitchers for the upcoming year until next off-season when the free agent class will include top shelf SPs or go after Lackey to replace Bucholz.

Jed Hoyer’s knowledge of the Boston farm system could work against Epstein. Either way, Theo has to find a way to get Gonzales for 2 reasons. 1. The obvious need for a power bat and 2. Theo needs to save face with his sinking fan base. His past Bromances with Drew, Renteria, Lugo, maybe Beltre has alienated the Red Sox Nation considerably.
