That’s just about the most retarded thing I have heard in the last month. 31.5? Give me a break. If Seattle, or anyone, pays him that, the GM needs to be fired on the spot.

Why not just do what every other team intent on committing financial suicide at some unspecified time in the near future does? Backload his contract. Then, when in a year and a half (assuming the 787 actually can fly) Boeing drops the other shoe and moves the rest of its assembly operations to some right-to-work state in the Gallant South, no one can afford to go to ballgames anymore and the Lenin statue in Fremont is being carried at the head of the May Day Parade from the Space Needle to the site of the original Crapper toilet at Doc Maynard's, they'd have to pay him the biggest part of the tab. Who knows? A jolt like that might even bring Gary Larson out of retirement, at how bad would that be, after all?
