gonzalez is well werth obtaining,but do not give up ellsbury.60-70 steals,guts,good average,young,inexpensive,the list goes on and on. Unload papelbone[not a gamer,would prefer to pitch with the yankees!],westmoreland,buchold.i still think we need a catcher who can throw base-stealers out.

The red sox’s have too get alot more offence to even keep up with the yankees. What is Big Pop going to hit this year.His hitting to me is on the decline. Beltre I would not even put him in my shopping list. Ellsbury no trade: Boston has ever had speed in the line up like they have with Ells.Defence,speed and offence it does not get any better then that.I think Gonzales is the answer without any question. But who do we give. Buch or Bard one but not both. Wakefield,Delcarmen, Wake is a first half pitcher and he goes on the DL. Delcarmen has great stuff but he gets brain dead on the mound some times. I just do not know what too do. But without any question I would go after Gonzales with all I could within reason. Farm system etc. Sign him I think we could go back to the World Series.

While Gonzalez is a amazing player, giving up Ells and Buch is bold. With Bay going and Big P another year old, the protection for Gonzalez could be spotty at best. Its fair to say that Cam and Drew are going to put up the same numbers. Dice and Wake have some real ??? after last year. The sox should consider other options like Johnson, delgado, or blalock and make a run at Albert next year.

All right…some of you people are starting to bring me around to the idea of trading Ellsbury. Gonzalez is certainly an amazing enough talent.
Not Bard, however. Papelbon is showing signs of decline already, and he probably doesn’t want to stay in Boston after his little meltdown a few months ago and the subsequent booing. Hell, he was making noise about exploring free agency even before that.
With that in mind, trading Bard would be suicidal.

The allure of playing on the Red Sox is strong however so is living and playing in San Diego.

How is Lowell better than Beltre when Lowell is 5 years older and has a laundry list of injuries. Lets face it, Lowell simply cannot be an everyday player and lacks the range of Beltre. Beltre can play everyday, has better range and puts up the same numbers hitting wise as Lowell.

Dirck is right on the money. PETCO Park is a pitchers park, Gonzo will kill at Fenway. Look at homerun production and multiply by 1.25, easy, that’s 50 dingers. Last year had a .550 slugging percentage, maybe .600 at Fenway. Gold Glove at 1st base, he’s the whole package. Boston should make this happen, Adrian has no reason to stay in SD, they’re just talking about rebuilding. It will be years before the Padres have a contender. This is win / win.

Why would they acquire Beltre at the price he’s asking when Lowell is a better player with a similar contract? That makes no sense at all. Clearly, the Sox are going after Gonzalez hard and will trade Ellsbury and Buch if that’s what it takes. Adding Gonzalez would allow them to fill in left field with Hermida and still improve their lineup. A lineup of Pedroia-Drew-Marinez-Gonzalez-Youk-Ortiz-Cameron-Hermida-Scutaro would be a definite upgrade to last year.

I would not trade Adrian for Bucholz and Ellsbury. He is a great player and a great guy. 40 homers, gold glove, great contract– the Padres would have to be stupid to trade him, only Pujols and Tex are in his league as first basemen.

Ellsbury is a nice player , but to pass up Adrian Gonzalez AT THOSE SALARY FIGURES because you don’t want to give up Ellsbury is way beyond stupid . Fortunately for the Red Sox , I am pretty sure that Theo is not as dumb as some of his fans . Gonzalez is one of the best hitters in baseball who has been putting up huge numbers in a home park that kills hitters and with absolutely no help around him in the lineup . What he could do in Boston with that lineup around him is scary .

I really liked what I saw from Buccholz this year and don’t particularly want to see him go, but he is certainly good trade bait and Adrian Gonzalez is irresistible for a team that needs some power.
However, Ellsbury and Bard are both untouchable as far as I’m concerned. If Theo trades EITHER of these two, I will not be happy, Gonzalez or no Gonzalez.

I don’t think it’s worth giving up Ellsbury in order to get Gonzalez if that that’s what it comes down to. If that scenario presents itself then I say ditch the Padres deal and go after Beltre. Just my 2 cents.
