Jamey Carroll to chose between his multiple offers today

Dec 16, 2009, 1:20 PM EDT

As I said the other day, it’s quite something that a utility infielder has multiple multi-year contracts from which to choose. Guys like Jamey Carroll are practically disposable. But at least a couple of teams don’t think so, and Buster Olney tweets that Carroll is expected to choose between the offers sometime today. Buster says it’ll either be Oakland or L.A. He doesn’t say which L.A., though, so I’m going to assume it’s the Kings until told otherwise.

UPDATE: It’s the Dodgers. Damn.

Wonder if the Dodgers would dare to start him. Still several 2B out there but if they’re really strapped for cash…

I consider myself reasonably in touch with the game, but I had never heard of Jamey Carroll until you mentioned him this week.
I kinda like the unheralded 35-yr old utility guy parlaying his career .701 OPS into a multiyear deal. Good for him and his family – turns out he and his wife just had twins last year, their first. Also, Cleveland’s baseball writers recently selected him for the Frank Gibbons/Steve Olin Good Guy Award.
I am now officially a Jamey Carroll fan.
