I just went back and read C Calcaterra on Adrian yesterday, link above, the last paragraph says why it makes sense for the Pads to wait until the deadline – so ditto that.

As far as Gallagher, he’s a servicable 5th starter in the NL, esp in Petco.
So ironic for the Pads that they have exactly 2 professional hitters and they’re both stuck at 1st base in a league with no DH. Arrgh.
MP is right on point again – I would say that the ideal time to trade Adrian Gonzalez would be right before the trade deadline. You just can’t spit the bit like Ricciardi did last year.

This is the best reasoning I’ve seen to justify trading Gonzalez. But are you sure about Gallagher in the starting rotation keeping them in games? He was beaten up pretty well in Oakland, and left under some clouds as to attitude and commitment.
