Roy Halladay is not the only ballplayer taking out full-page ads as he leaves town. Would you believe Milton Bradley?
On behalf of the Bradley family, I would like to express my deepest ingratitude to the racist fans of Chicago, my former teammates, manager Lou Piniella, general manager Jim Hendry, the local media and the umpires who conspired against me . . .
Read the rest of the shocking, shocking letter here.
UPDATE: if that letter has you angry, you won’t want to miss this.

dcfan: awesome! excellent that you got that in right between Craig’s left hook and Bruce crashing (not stumbling) to the mat. Just awesome.
Bruce: Wow. Just wow. Step away from the blog and go outside and breathe, look around and try to remember not everyone is this emotionally tied to baseball players. And the world is actually a pretty decent place, with people who aren’t all evil (and thereby capable of doing every bad thing you can think up, even if it would otherwise seem unlikely) or all good (and thereby incapable of mistakes). So, yeah, he’s a tool with a big mouth. But to believe so automatically that he would be stupid enough and angry enough (this would take a lot of anger, and a lot of simmering. If he were really this pissed and this incapable of reflection on what such a move would do to his career and his PR, I would have expected him to have done something before now, likely right after he was suspended), to do something this stupid and hate-filled? You take a very dim view of humanity at large.

I think you have problems grasping reality and MB’s perception to baseball fans. You make it sound like he is Derek Jeter or Greg Maddux. MB obviously has some serious psychological issues. It wouldn’t have surprised me in the least that he could write something like this.
For what it’s worth, I showed the link to 5 hardcore baseball fans, and they all believed it was real until I pointed out it wasn’t. That is what MB’s reputation really is.

I hate to break this to you, but your post has now conclusively disproved your initial impulse for posting here (i.e. that I should be worried about defamation liability). If his reputation is such shit, he has no defamation damages, and if he has no damages he has no case.
Screw the left and right hooks, I should just watch you fight yourself.

Oh, OHHHHHH, its over, Bruce is down, he doesn’t look like he is moving. I think its all over folks, Bruce needs a miracle here. Craig may have stepped into the victors circle with that blow, wow!!!

Its over. Its all over. Bruce has thrown in the towel. Such a sad way to end such a title fight. Craig, you have mastered yet another a la Mike Tyson and his many nobodies he obliterated. Stand tall my man, you have exposed another moron for what he is, a moron. Wait, does that make sense…

Wow, I don’t know dcfan, it may have ended with a disqualification from a serious low blow in Bruce’s last comment.
It was such a low blow, only someone with a really bad attitude could have dealt it. Could it be that Bruce IS Milton Bradley? If so, who might his 5 friends be?
Anyway, as one of your “2-3 dozen fans” Craig, let me try to counteract Bruce’s negetivity by wishing you and your family the most joyous of holiday seasons. May you and yours receive all the blessings you deserve and may Santa deliver to you the most magnificent gift of all… Yankee Fandom. Ok, strike that last one if you wish, but I stand by the rest of my holiday wishes to you and yours.

Hahaha, I had fun reading all the back and forth. I just wanted to say a couple things:
Craig: Good job… this was pretty funny (although I do think the comments on this story are 10 times funnier… mainly because Bruce is a nitwit)
Bruce: Dude, really? I guess definitions of “legitimate news” differ from person to person. Not to say MSNBC is illegitimate, but how many stories have we seen/read on MSNBC or CNN or ABC, etc. about Britney Spears’ diet secrets after she was pregnant? Or that Ben and Jen broke up? Or the absolutely breaking story that was Jason Lee naming his freaking kid “Pilot Inspektor” (sorry, that just infuriates me)? While from your perspective these stories are, in fact, true, I do not find them legitimate as they have no relevance to my life, and are basically fluff stories to keep celebrity gossipers in business for the next few months.
In addition, parody is an enormous part of our society. Last time I checked, shows like Saturday Night Live, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, etc. were allowed to be shown on TV because they were protected under U.S. law. If criticism of the govt. is a legitimate practice, why shouldn’t satirical stories about morons with bad tempers be the same? I get your point, I just completely disagree… oh btw, ending every post with an insult does nothing except make you look desperate to make your point. Sort of the old third grade policy of arguing: “If I make my point the loudest, I WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Just so you know, it doesn’t work… at all.

I’m going to join Neon Noodle and pile on with a “Happy Holidays, Craig!” I hope you have a fantastic holiday, and from what I’ve read on the various incarnations of your blog, you have a great family who you actually seem to appreciate (you never do that tired “my wife is such a drag” schtick, thank god)and who seems to get you. so, no, I don’t feel sorry for them. If only I could believe that we won’t be seeing Bruce again. Still, I hope he has a good holiday — it sounds like he could use one.

Nice start to your NBC “career,” Craig.
No credibility. Poor judgment.
Spare us the “scoops” from now on.

I didn’t need the second link. There wasn’t one doubt in my mind that this link was anything other than parody.
I guess I found this parody particularly funny because I like Milton. Yeah, he could use some anger management training like men I’ve dated; however, if you’ve actually had the opportunity to listen to complete interviews with him (not sound bites and quotes without context), he’s actually articulate, fairly bright, and can be wickedly funny and self-deprecating.
And no…I’m not his mother or a family member.

I read the article and find it funny. I to got to suffer through the bored game playing baseball in Chicago, and was shocked and awed to see him gone. I actually got an extra chuckle this year, being a Twins fan and attending the game in which Milty decided 2 outs were enough and tossed the ball into the stands. People forget that was just 1 of several mental mistakes he made in that game. We might actually get a pitcher worth rehabilitating, and lower the payroll… cya bored game. (funny stuff Craig – sad part is it is almost believable).

just so you know this was not real…. Its funny if you look at some other stuff on this site you will realize pretty quick… Guess the writer of THIS page is either looking for an easy article that will attract hits or is just a ra tard… Oh yeah just gotta use a hangover quote

Milton is a pussy! I didn’t care for him when he showed up in Texas. He is always hurt and wanting sympathy from the fans, media, and however will give it to him. I really think he is the racist! Hey baby Milton, you get paid millions to play a game, suck it up and be a man.

I generally like your stuff Craig (especially your banter on BBTF!). However, this is just absurd. It’s also old and un-original. It’s your integrity, feel free to kick it around as you please. Just keep in mind when you post trash, and trash is what fills up space on your page, then trash is what folks will begin to associate you with. Bruce wasn’t the only visitor put-off by the “letter”. I would think you’d be honored to know that people rely on you as a legit source of sports/baseball information. Instead, you seem very arrogant and dismissive of people’s genuine thoughts on this trash. They wouldn’t care if they didn’t like your site, Craig. Again, if this is the trash you don’t mind associating yourself with, have at. It’s your credibility/integrity on the line, not ours. We can just go somewhere else if we don’t want to see the garbage. Honestly, much more garbage like this, and I know I will be.

Craig: nice job putting the douche bag Bruce in his place! The pea brained schmuck loser should change his name to “Sucker” as it fits him perfectly. He was not sharp enough to enjoy the parody, and then picked and lost a verbal exchange with you. His negativity, nasty name calling, and completely inane “ninny” logic make me glad I’m not him! As for Milton Bradley: biggest, total, loser in baseball, ever.

I’m a few days late, but I just stumbled upon this. Craig, you did a fine job defending your action to an obvious lamebrain, but please don’t link to stuff like this any more.
The whole chain of posts was very entertaining and enjoyable. I did get that the Tribune page was a fake, but that’s the point. I don’t want to read a stupid rant like that anywhere anytime under any circumstances, and it wasn’t even real, so why would I want to read it? It certainly wasn’t really funny.
I like your real writing. Keep going. Have a good year.

I try not to take too many things seriously (especially when there are little blue “related links” like “yes I know it’s not for real” just below the article). The big bang-for-the-entertainment-buck has to be the running comments. OK, we Cubs fans are horrendously desperate for the Promised Land & by virtue of being Cubs fans, are quite likely to be the suckers of W.C. Fields’s wettest dreams but “lawsuit”??? C’mon people!
“It’s your column, you can write what you want to,
write what you want to, write what you want to…”
Know whut I mean, Vern?
Happy New Year, all!!!
