I’d rather have 10 years of lousy Mets baseball and no DH than 10 great seasons as a Yankee fan and have to watch the lousy DH rule. As a huge Mets fan, Clemens should’ve been beaned, at least in his non-throwing shoulder. The reason I like NL baseball a lot better than the junior circuit is in the NL the pitcher bats and has to face the music for his actions, unlike the AL where a pitcher doesn’t even bat unless they’re playing in a NL ballpark. Ban the DH already. There’s no reason a guy like Clemens should be able to hit batters and then go hide in the dugout. LET’S GO METS!

While hiring Minaya, and trading Kaz for virtually nothing are low points, not drilling Clemens was pretty bad. If you are unwilling to stand up for yourself, team spirit dissolves. I don’t advocate anything above the waist, Clemens literally tried to kill him. Why? Because Piazza hammered him. He didn’t try to claim the inside half of the plate, which is fine, he tried to injure him, and possibly in a roid rage, tried to kill him.
For those old enough to remember, Gullickson was someone with a bad reputation, and he hit a Met early in the game. Gooden, the vintage Gooden, waited. When Gullickson came up to bat, he put one about an inch from Gullickson’s nose. Gullickson looked like he wanted to go to the mound, but his legs were shaking too much. Never again do I recall Gullickson whacking anyone.
If Clemens thinks it’s okay to bean someone then he has to accept that it is okay to get beaned back. Perhaps beaning is too extreme, but as a minimum, he should’ve been drilled every time he got up to bat.

Hmm, a blog post linking to a (semi-sociopathic, but that’s irrelevant) story about the Mets and yet the only comments are by Yankees fans. How telling.
On another note, I love seeing the comments by Jason and Len here, and the comments by Jack Marshall and Richard in Dallas over in the Milton Bradley CC-vs-Bruce cage match comment section. It’s like moving to a new high school but seeing a bunch of people from your old school there with you. Comforting.
