Jermaine Dye???? I thought Cash was trying to get the Yankees younger? I would have rather seen Damon or Matsui back.
Jermaine Dye is a terrible OF and it's laughable for anyone to suggest that he'd bump any of the Yanks other OF from a starting spot.
Ugly defensive metrics and stuff here: <a href="http://www.itsaboutthemoney.net/2009-articles/december/jermaine-dye-is-a-terrible-outfielder.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.itsaboutthemoney.net/2009-articles/december/jermaine-dye-is-a-terrible-outfielder.html</a>

Agree with PabloP!! Xavier Nady is a ready-made, low-cost, high-upside alternative - which is why this Red Sox fan would be delighted to see Xav play in Fenway for 81 games a year over the next 2-3 years, or even come in to spot the regulars off the bench.
I'm sorry, but - just as I cannot see Jason Bay playing 81 games in Death Valley (Yankee Stadium) or Citi Field - I don't see Jermaine as a LF solution for the Yankees. No knock on Jermaine - would love to see him play a year or two in Fenway, but we already have Mike Cameron, whose swing is perfect for The Wall.
Seems to me that Theo Epstein and his doppelganger Brian Cashman are sitting on their hands and waiting for the 2011 free agent market.
So are the other GMs, else why would we be talking about Dye and Nady instead of Bay and Holliday? Collusion? Heavens, no! That would be - uh - a real shame. Right, Bud Selig?

This could be just a rumor, designed to put more pressure on Damon and his evil counselor, or it could be a decent move. Sign Dye for a few million for a year with the understanding that he won't necessarily be a full-timer (and with some attainable vesting option clause), and if he really looks like he's done, dump him.

Even if this rumor is remote, it's just another invitation for Johnny Damon to stay with the Yanks. How dense can he be? Cashman will stop dropping hints at some point.
Johnny, talk to Andy and just take something before it really is too late.
