Are you drunk? Have you notice teams are not beating down the doors for Rick Ankiel! He can’t hit an off speed pitch for the life of him! He was a good story back in ’08 but he has been reduced to nothing more than an ok outfielder with a strong arm!

Would you rather the owners just pocket the money they are making on the game? If MLB teams are bringing in millions of dollars per year shouldn’t the players get their shares? If the addition of Matt Holliday would increase a team’s revenues by 25 million a year, wouldn’t it be a wise business move to pay Holliday 20 and pocket the other 5? Markets are based on supply and demand. If the market drives up the price of a player it means that there are teams that believe the player is worth the increase.
As far as the prices at the ballparks:
I live in Indiana. We do not have a professional team. Our closest teams are the Cub, White Sox, Red, Indians, and Cardinals. Even those teams are too far away for me to watch live even occasionally. My MLB experience is thus almost exclusively via television. I could give a rat’s ass what they charge at the ballpark, but if teams can charge high rates and still fill the seats, what in the world would motivate them to lower prices other than low attendance? If guys like you want to avoid the ballparks because it is too expensive, it will not matter as long as there are others who are willing to pay the price. Don’t be sour over baseball because your financial planning for retirement was piss poor. If you truly love baseball take it as it comes and do not begrudge a player that is trying to make the most money from his talent.

Why I don’t go to major league games anymore? Try these posts. I am a certified old fart but even non COFs should be able to see how absurd all this is.
$20,000,000 a year to play baseball?
BTW – I haven’t forgiven mlb for the strike 15 years ago, the biggest reason for that being that they never said they were sorry – because they are not. They know that there are enough suckers out there who will pay the outrageous ticket prices to watch these clowns.
Give me a 16 ounce $2 brewski and a chair and I’ll go to town this spring and watch High School Baseball or maybe college. MLB? Forget it.

I could not believe it when I read this headline. Holliday and Boras need to be ridden out of St. Louis on a rail. We got him in a losing deal to give the team a decent shot of getting to the post-season. We got there, but the pennant run was aborted in Game 1 by a strike out and a bone-headed dropped ball by none other than Matt Holliday (he tried to catch with his eyes closed!!). After McGwire, we are used to being duped by our players, but we never forget their misdeeds. Move on, Matt.

The Yankees should offer a one year deal to Holliday at 20 million. Holliday will be able to save face because he will be at a higher annual income than the Colorado offer. He would be playing for a contender, and he could re-enter the free agent market again next year and hope that the market is a sellers market. He might not get the security of a multi-year deal, but he would definitely get a trip to the World Series.

I don’t disagree with you, Craig, but when we consider that Bay will likely receive $80M ($16M per season for five years, assuming that his option vests), a $108M ($18M per for six) or $102M ($17M per for six) for the better outfielder hardly seems unreasonable.
