Salty had Thoracic Outlet Surgery – not a shoulder injury which is a whole different ballgame. No labrum or rotator cuff involvement at all. Having said that, I agree with hardjuge that Pudge should have been re-signed if for no other reason than to be a mentor/backup and allow Teagarden to return to AAA where he should have been all last year. You have to have a short memory to forget that Salty was great last year before his injury with many experts lauding his defensive improvement.

Salty has a serious shoulder injury, so they dont know what to expect from him. Teagarden has been very inconsistent at the plate, but is an excellent catcher. They should have kept Pudge to work with them.

I hate the Rangers’ attitude toward their young catchers. They are single-handedly ruining a great bunch of catchers. Or perhaps I’m just confused about what exactly they expect out of a “veteran” catcher that they think they can’t get out of Saltalamacchia and Teagarden. The Rangers are like that parent that gets super-negative about their child’s ability to cross the street by themselves just so they don’t have to let go of their hand. Stop treating them with kid gloves and let them play. Ugh.
