Daisuke Matsuzaka told a Japanese publication
that he hurt his inner thigh before Spring Training in the early part
of 2009, but didn’t disclose the injury to anyone. Take a look at the
(loosely) translated version of the story here,
but it’s pretty clear something was off with Dice-K upon joining the
Red Sox after his brilliant performance for Japan in the World Baseball
Classic.
Matsuzaka was 4-6 with a 5.76 ERA
and 1.87 WHIP in 12 starts with the Red Sox in ’09. He was 3-1 with a
2.22 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in four starts after missing three months with a
right shoulder injury.

Hiding injuries is stupid in any culture. What’s the Japanese for “high-priced fool”?

Even when he isn’t hurt he doesnt throw strikes and is a 5 inning pitcher and walks a tight rope with all the walks he issues. Baston can have him!

He may not to that deep in the game, and he puts a lot of guys on base. Still, in 2008 he went 18-3 with a 2.90 ERA. Those are pretty amazing numbers for the Sox’s number four pitcher.
