Derek Jeter is getting married

Jan 10, 2010, 4:00 PM EDT

I suppose this means that Tim McCarver will have to stop writing “Mrs. Derek Jeter” over and over again in his notebook:

After months of speculation that the Yankees’ hunk and his sexy
steady Minka Kelly are headed to the altar, The Post has learned that
the super couple may have settled on a wedding date — Nov. 5.

November 5th, eh? So I guess the champagne shower the Yankees should be favored to be taking earlier that week can double as a bachelor party.  My favorite bit from the story is this, however:

After getting a tip about the upcoming nuptials, The Post confirmed the
date by spotting a curious entry in the official calendar at the ritzy
reception palace Oheka Castle in Huntington, LI, for the first Friday
in November that read simply “JETER wedding.”

Uh-oh. Now that he knows where it is, I lay even odds on McCarver driving like mad to get to the ceremony, busting in, fighting off the families by ripping the cross off the wall, barricading the door, and then escaping with Jeter onto a waiting bus and donning ambiguous facial expressions as they drive away to some Simon and Garfunkel song.

Tiger will tell you, Derek, subscribe to the last 81 away games now, or repent in leisure to a secret Long Island locale near the scene of the crime.

I played softball with Derek Jeter’s cousin while I was in the Army.
Are we sure it’s not him?

Awesome, so now Joe Girardi has someone to give flowers to next offseason when Jeter signs his 50 year, 4 billion dollar contract that evolves from player to coach to mananger to GM to owner. I already can’t wait for the “Yanks to be paying Jeter until 2061!” posts on ESPN.

I know my first remark was lame, however at least I didn’t go practically all the way back to the Koufax era.
But I do love the new parlor game- scroll down slowly and “Guess the Tag”.
Now I’ll be quiet and wait for the 412 posts spiked with indignant comments because of the Jeter headline and references to “The Ambiguously Gay Duo”.

who is this a*shole calcattera. he is very annoying and very stupid. figures he has a blog. probably tried out for the mtv italian jersey shore show and didn’t make it. which is really bad since that show is the armpit of television.
Anyway, Derek Jeter has hos faults, believe it or not. I know a few of them. But Derek Jeter is the greatest athlete with the most class, generosity and kindness that ever played professional sports.
There should be a Jeter 101 class in every 4th grade class in the country to teach our kids the right way to live. Amen and god bless derek jeter.

I don’t see how a guy like Derek Jeter can land a lady like this. I mean sure, he’s a 5-time world champion, almost has 3000 hits, can play shortstop at the big league level like no tomorrow, seems like a nice guy, has some good looks to him, but other than that, what a bum.
    (So jealous of his life).

It’s simple numbers really: $189,000,000. You’d don a wig and get a nice pushup for a chance at half of that and you know it. 😉

Not since Giambi the Elder got married to somebody he met at PF Chiang’s has there been such interest in a baseball wedding.
Got to love the “Graduate” tag.

    Wow, that was coherent.

Well, the NY tabloids are happy. I bet they manage to put Jeter and bride on the cover about 30 times over the next year.
And with any luck, this will be, from start to finish, a happy story. Which given what usually runs on the Post and Daily News will be a welcome change.

The Yankees aren’t repeating, so Jeter won’t have to worry about the W.S. coming close to his wedding date.

And who is this illiterate clown who can’t punctuate, capitalize or, apparently, even spell “asshole” correctly?
