The Twins haven't started talking to Joe Mauer yet, but it's cool

Jan 11, 2010, 5:00 PM EDT

Jon Heyman reports that the Twins have not started talking to Joe Mauer yet, though they probably will soon. Heyman says that the “word is that Mauer plans to be reasonable for a superstar” in his demands, which Heyman says is seven years and north of $20 million, but not near $30 million.

I’d be shocked if this turned into a fraction of the drama some people think it will be. My guess: we here nothing for a while and then one day the Minneapolis equivalent of Mike Fancessa announces it was a done deal a week before. The only people who fret will be Red Sox and Yankees fans who will have to find someone else’s property to covet;

    Circle your calendars: TwinsFest 2010 (which The Common Man and I will be attending again) falls on the weekend of January 29-31, and it’s a big deal (by Minneapolis standards). January 29, 12 p.m.ish CST would be a highly appropriate time for a certain press conference to be held.

    No, it’s not “cool.” It’s cryogenically severe up there. Ted Williams’ family could have saved a fortune by just keeping him in the meat locker between May and September, and sitting him on a park bench in Minneapolis the rest of the year.

    Comment to “Oldd Gator” That’s a very funny remark….. I can actually see him sitting on that bench.

    Poor Ted, they were using his head for batting practice at the lab, too. I doubt he could have taken much worse abuse on Gator’s park bench. Look Ted, I’m hitting .400 in this zone. Oops – I think we have a splinter. Splendid!

    The best design for benches is silk. The cloth make the hard structure of the bench nicer while maintaining a classic look.

    It’s great that you took your time to write all this up

    Its not cool that the twins havent sighned joe mauer yet. we sigh jim thome a 1 yr deal for 1.5 mill. We dont even need him. jason kubel is our dh. We are wasting money we can be giving to joe mauers contract. i got a iffy feeling about this. you all remember what happen with johan santana. Not enough money to pay him, so we had to trade him for some crappy players. watch history repeats itself.
