Bronson Arroyo and Eduardo Perez to appear in what sounds like a fabulous film

Jan 22, 2010, 5:58 PM EDT

Yeah, “The Amazing Race” is impressive, but how about this:  Arroyo! Perez! In theaters this fall!

Cincinnati Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo is heading to Tappan, New York this weekend for a cameo role in an independent film. Former Red Eduardo Perez will also make an appearance. The film, called “Goat,” is about a young man struggling to recover from a brutal attack after pledging to a fraternity.

The two will appear alongside Armand Assante, Ice-T, and Sopranos’ alum William DeMeo and Vincent Pastore.

Ice-T’s best film performance of all time was in “Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo” and I will not accept any arguments to the contrary.  His neon-clad performance during the concert to save the Help Center spoke to me. And I’m not gonna lie: I had a crush on Lucinda Dickey who, despite her later star turn in “Cheerleader Camp,” will always be Kelly to me.

How many days until pitchers and catchers report again?

    How many days? Too many.

Down here in Macondo, the frats over at the University of Miami had a really unique form of hazing their godforsaken pledges. On the southeast side of town along Old Cutler Road back when it was lined with the occasional filthy rich man’s estate, the enormous land crabs that inhabit the mangrove hammocks along the bay used to migrate en masse across Old Cutler Road of a Fall evening on their way to the dry hammocks in the parkland on the opposite side of the raoad wheretofore make whatever grotesque sort of whoopee crustaceans make when no one is looking. These things are so big that they could wreck motorcycles and if trucks ran them over you’d get a slick on which a normal car could spin out; in some cases, if you hit them right, you could blow a tire. Then you’d get out to change the tire, not knowing what had happened, and you’d hear a clackety clack from thousands of crab feet on the pavement and, Buddha be merciful, if you scanned the surrounding road with a flashlight, their little bestalked eyes would light up all around you like fairy lamps, and you’d make out their horrible shapes moving relentlessly east to west in the darkness. On not a few occasions cars were found in the morning, still sitting on their jacks, and nothing was ever seen of the drivers again. Tch, tch. Such is life in the tropics.
    .
Anyway, point is, the frats would bring their freshmen pledges down to the barricade the county cops set up across the most heavily crabbed-out sections of the road, make them take off their shoes and socks, blindfold them and then ask them to walk past the barricade for a few dozen yards. Uh-huh. And some of those witless twits were never heard from again either. Oh, sure, once in a while you’d get a report of one of them turning up at Bowdoin or at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and a few of them even wound up at the J. B. Rhine Institute at Duke where they accepted scholarships in return for promising to let the graduate students stick wires in their heads. The ones who walked out and came back without fouling their Taiwanese Levi knockoffs wound up on the football team.

How can anyone not agree that Breakin 2: Electric Bugaloo isn’t one of the greatest movies of all time. It was magical…

Great performances, great script, horrible music. Might as well shove a horsemeat and velveeta sandwich – seasoned with aquarium gravel – in both ears. Just thinking about it reminds me to listen to some Coltrane today – like a colon cleanser for my aesthetic.

In my university we are having a seminar to revisit energy meter design. There must be creative ideas out there.
