Well, when your team needs a 3B/1B and you have Atkins, who probably plays a better 1B, Tejada looks a lot better than Joe Crede, Hank Blalock, etc…

The upside is, Bell isn’t ready to play in the big leagues yet. Bell is a beast from the left hand side but he has real issues batting right handed. He was also in AA last season. This moves gives Bell another season to 1-Fix his swing right handed or 2- Dump switch hitting and get some at bats left vs left.
Beltre had no intention of coming to Baltimore and none of the other 3rd base options were clearly better then Tejada.

Agreed, when Tejada left Baltimore the first time it seemed like it was overdue, nobody was happy with him there. Now they turn around and resign him and they want him to play third base. I just don’t see the upside of this, there seems to be quite a few teams signing older guys this offseason with no visible upside.

I thought the O’s were finally moving forward, they unloaded this jerk 2 years ago — he lied about his age, juiced, whined, showed up late, disrespected his team and the game (e.g. barely trotting to first base)… plus since he’s off the juice, his power is gone (total of 27 homers in the last 2 years)….

It also allows them to send Robert Andino, a light-hitting back up shortstop to the minors. They could pinch hit for Izturis with Wigginton or Michael Aubrey and slide Tejada over to SS late in games.

This will be a nice addition for the Orioles. Yes, he’s aging, but he plays every day and he plays hard, plus he’s a good team player. I’m sure the steroid shouters will trash him, but Tejada will help the O’s.
