Exactly my point, FM. Koppet has gone into great detail with lots of tables to show exactly your figure, that the DH has not made a great impact.
So how ’bout it folks, 8 hitters in the line up. You still follow the same pinch hitting rules. Everything would be the same, it’s just that your 8 guys would bat more often.

Here’s a thought. What if they took away the DH and just let the other 8 guys bat in rotation instead. Leonard Koppett took up that idea in his book “A Thinking Fans Guide to Bsseball”.
Even though it has increased run production to a certain extent, the DH role has not created a dramatic increase in runs that it was hoped that it would.
Having your best guys bat more often would do it.

No disrespect to Jim Thome, he was a good hitter, but I think it’s time to make Konerko a dh and try for the Royals 1b Billy Butler. That young man belongs on a better team.

As a Twins fan, I really hope the Sox sign him up. The Twins main need right now is an infielder who can bat 2nd. Someone like … oh, I don’t … let’s see here … someone like Hudson perhaps?!
One can only hope.

With all due respect, insofar as Thome has only taken the field 4 times in the past 4 seasons, and 0 times in the past 2 seasons, this statement is right up there with the ‘sun will rise in the east’.

I think Thome has at least one more year left in his powerful bat. He would make a wonderful designated hitter. He is too slow to play in the field anymore. He would give the White Sox about 20 home runs and 80 RBIs doing the designated hitter role. He could also pinch hit in a pinch. I think signing Thome would be a good deal for the White Sox.
